The UK’s Professional Publishers Association (PPA) named Software as a Service firm Zapnito as Digital Start-Up of the Year, in its Digital Awards on November 25, 2015. Zapnito has quickly attracted the business of publishers including Nature Publishing Group, Kelsey Media and Informa with its software for the creation of branded expert knowledge networks.

The awards’ judges called Zapnito “a welcome new addition to the digital publishing landscape”. They were impressed with the innovation shown by Zapnito in “its efforts to respond to the challenge publishers face in maintaining [audience] engagement as content continues to fragment across platforms”.

Zapnito’s out-of-the-box tools allow experts and companies to interact and collaborate through multimedia content creation, commenting, voting, Q&A, video panels, online courses and interactive company directories. The networks are revenue-generating for its clients, through subscriptions, native advertising and sponsorship. They can also deliver cost savings for publishers, being quick to set-up with no need for additional tech support.

Zapnito enables publishers to showcase the expertise that exists within their editorial teams, and with external expert collaborators, as well as to encourage customers to share their own expertise under their brand. They can thereby demonstrate the value of their network of experts, setting themselves apart from 'social noise' and the proliferation of online content that may carry no guarantee of quality.

What’s more, by bringing people together in a dedicated, branded space Zapnito allows customers to reclaim ownership of their audience in a way that is not possible on other social content distribution channels. In that space, they can better understand, engage and therefore retain their customers.

Hosted by comedian Mark Watson, the PPA Digital Awards took place at The InterContinental on Park Lane in London, UK. They celebrated “the best digital talent across consumer magazine and business media brands” and featured awards across 17 categories. Zapnito joined publishing industry leaders such as Dennis Publishing, The Economist Group, Reed Business Information and Centaur Communications on the list of winners.
